The past month or two have seen my efforts pick up again, but they’ve also seen my progress dwindle.
Tutorial hell
I seem to have found myself here recently.
I think the main issue is the pacing of different tutorials – that and the fact that no single course is just right for me.
In the past, I’ve always learned things in a more academic way where you get taught the basics, you get given some insight into some methodologies and then you have a task to complete.
The task is geared up for letting you use the skills that have been learned to put them into practical usage.
That works for me.
Doing it for myself
This is always easier when someone else is responsible for teaching you and setting your tasks.
When you have to do it yourself – it’s not always as easy.
At least it certainly isn’t easy for me!
So I’ve stripped things down to the essentials – learn a couple of things, then do something with them.
Given that I don’t know what I don’t know, it’s not easy to start.
Starting off easy
Fortunately, I do know that I’d like to get a better grasp of using Grid & Flexbox for layouts.
So that’s my first area of focus.
In an effort to minimise distractions, I’m also turning back to books.
No links to other resources in the middle of the content.
No ads or other interruptions to my flow.
I may even try to do the work using my laptop rather than sitting at my desk with my larger monitors – and all the various things I’ve usually got open.
